US lawmakers call for new tariffs on ceramic tile imports from India

U.S. Representative John Rose has sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo requesting stronger tariffs on ceramic tile imports from India. The letter highlights the negative impact of these imports on local manufacturers, particularly in Tennessee, Texas, where this sector plays a key role in the economy and employment.

Rose argues that Indian tiles are being imported at unfairly low prices, undermining the competitiveness of American companies and threatening manufacturing jobs. He stresses the need for trade measures to ensure a level playing field for local producers.

The resolution of this request will be crucial in defining the balance between U.S. trade defense policies and the pursuit of stable trade relations with partners such as India. Rep. Rose’s request could set a precedent for other industrial sectors facing similar challenges due to international competition, encouraging requests for additional trade measures.
