The United States announces it will impose 25% tariffs on countries that buy oil or gas from Venezuela.

The president of United States, Donald Trump announced on Monday, March 24, the imposition of a new "Secondary Tariff" of 25%. to imports from countries that acquire oil or gas from Venezuela.

President Trump justified his decision by arguing that Venezuela has shown hostile behavior toward the United States and has facilitated the entry of criminals, including the “Tren de Aragua” gang, into the United States.

The measure is expected to will come into force on April 2, the date on which the plan for adopting the new United States Reciprocal Tariffs will also be published.

Parallel to the announcement of the new “Secondary Tariff”, the U.S. Treasury Department announced an extension of Chevron's operating license in Venezuela until May 27. The license was previously scheduled to be revoked on April 3.
